Smart Start is a three-week program targeted to support unemployed residents of York Region to obtain the skills and certifications necessary to compete for employment in the customer service or foodservice sectors.

• Industry-specific certification and training (such as food handler, customer service, Smart Serve, first aid, WHMIS, computer skills)
• A customized Action Plan (outlining steps to reach an employment goal)
• A personal career assessment
• Job search techniques (resume, cover letters, portfolio development, cold calling, networking and interview skills)
• Personal success skills
• Work experience (through job shadowing, volunteer and/or paid work)
