Job Skills is a nonprofit employment and training organization that has served York Region, Peel Region, and the broader Greater Toronto Area since 1988. Job Skills operates eight locations and offers free programs to help job seekers, newcomers, youth, women, and internationally trained professionals find and keep work in Ontario.

Yes. All Job Skills employment programs are free to eligible participants. Programs are funded by government partners including Employment Ontario, the Regional Municipality of York, the Province of Ontario, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), depending on the program.

The right program depends on your situation. Job seekers looking for one-on-one employment support can use Employment Ontario Employment Services (EOES). Newcomers to Canada can use the Job Search Workshop (JSW) or the Employment Settlement Service (ESS) at a Welcome Centre. Women re-entering the workforce can use Simpact or Simpressions. Youth interested in self-employment can use Right Fit For You. Internationally trained health care professionals can use Bridge to Health Care. People interested in child care careers can use the Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) program.

No. Job Skills supports people who are unemployed, underemployed, or looking to change careers. You do not need to be currently unemployed to access most Job Skills employment services.

Yes. Job Skills offers several programs specifically for newcomers, including the Job Search Workshop (JSW), the Employment Settlement Service (ESS) available at York Region Welcome Centres, and Bridge to Health Care for internationally trained health professionals.

A Welcome Centre is a one-stop service in York Region that gives newcomers and immigrants access to settlement support, English classes, and employment services in one location. Job Skills is one of five partner organizations that manage the Welcome Centre network and directly operates the Markham North Welcome Centre location.

Yes. Simpact and Simpressions are both employment programs designed for women, offering coaching, skills training, and Canadian work experience to support re-entry into the workforce.

Yes. The Bridge to Health Care program supports internationally trained health care professionals with training and guidance to work in their field in Ontario. The Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) program supports people with child care experience in earning Ontario certifications such as Standard First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, and Food Handling.

Yes. The Right Fit For You program supports youth who are interested in exploring self-employment, including testing a business idea and building the skills needed to run a business.
