There is nothing more exciting and more nerve wreaking than a job interview.

You’ve been working hard on your job search and following through with your job search plan, and you finally landed a job interview. What if the worst-case scenario happened and you missed your job interview? What can you do to salvage the opportunity?

Help! I missed my job interview. What do I do?

If you are in a similar situation, the most important thing to do is not panic. Letting your anxiety get the best of you will not solve the problem. Honesty is the best policy, regardless of why you missed the interview. Be prepared that even being honest may not give you another interview time, and the opportunity may be lost. However, it’s still better to be open and honest because doing nothing and lying will only worsen the situation.

Everybody makes mistakes. The person who was scheduled to interview you should understand this. When you are given another opportunity, make sure that you apologize to your interviewer and outline what you learned from the situation and how you will never make that type of mistake again. Taking accountability and proving that you’ve learned from experience can go a long way in the eyes of the employer.
